Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre

Website Design

Designing a welcoming, accessible website for Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre—clarifying programs, simplifying updates, and building a flexible website that reflects the value of their centre.

The Challenge

Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre needed a website that better reflected the value it brings to the community and made it easier to find programs, events, venue hire and support information. The previous site was hard to navigate, time‑consuming to update and didn’t meet current accessibility expectations. As a not‑for‑profit, the Centre also needed a budget‑conscious solution that staff could confidently maintain in‑house.

Our Approach

We began with a discovery session to understand audience needs, priority journeys and content. From there, we mapped a clear, WCAG-informed website, that allowed them to better connect with their community online. We built a modular site on an easy‑to‑use CMS, with:

  • Accessible typography, colour contrast and clear hierarchy
  • Streamlined navigation for Programs and Venue Hire
  • Forms for enquiries and newsletter signup
  • Content migration, redirects and basic SEO setup
  • Performance, privacy and analytics essentials
  • Finally, we delivered hands‑on training so staff could update content quickly and consistently.

The Outcome

The new website is welcoming, intuitive and accessible—making it easier for community members to discover what’s on and take action. Staff can now publish updates, courses and news in minutes, reducing reliance on external support and improving turnaround times. Feedback from the community and team has been positive, with clearer pathways to key actions like enrolments and venue hire, and a website that will grow with the Centre.
